Miniature, Model & Mecha Non-Toxic Brush Painting for Absolute Beginners
A downloadable how-to zine
Want to start painting models for TTRPGs, board games, display or just for fun? Intimidated by all the options and not sure where to start? Working in a small space like an apartment and worried about paint safety?
This is an introduction to hand-painting miniatures and mecha models (such as Gundam) focusing on cheap, non-toxic starter materials. There's a lot of excellent resources out there but I've noticed that much of it focuses on brand and product line reviews. Those are helpful for long-time hobbyists, but can be overwhelming for beginners. You don't need name brands, airbrushes, or fancy supplies to start with. This zine lists cheap materials and techniques so you can jump right in and get painting!
It's a free download as a formatted PDF (web version and print version with bleeds) including checklists of starting materials and a link to an example list of cheap dollar-store supplies. Donations are appreciated but not necessary; this is a resource, so feel free to share with friends!
Cover art is by myself.
Finally, a big thank you to M. Halstead for the layout: https://mhalstead.com/
