🤔 why do you want people to beg for more of your work?

i don't understand

the opening is a sarcastic/ironic restatement of the type of marketing used to push creative advice books

ah gotcha

but the methods you tried, that's sincere?

yes, the methods are sincere! the zine is an expression of frustration, both at the commodification of creativity and at myself for (to some degree) buying into that pressure, but the ultimate through-line is for sincere, messy, explorative, and heartfelt creative expression

: o

oh i see! thx :)

Coming back to comment because I keep thinking about this piece. I've been struggling lately with the publishing industry and the lies we've been fed, so it's comforting to return to this piece to remind myself that the only thing that matters is MY art. Even if it's not life changing or inspiring, it's mine <3

Exactly!!

Loved this. The chaos and frustration speaks to me as someone that also suffered/suffers from chronic creativity. Thank you for this.

Thank you for reading!

Thank you for this, we've been struggling to figure out how to get our audience for years. It's been real tough lately too, and we are as far from mainstream as you can get XD
So seeing this reminded us, we're not alone, this is normal, and to focus on what makes your work special, is the real art. Don't follow trends, follow your heart. Or however you might say that with better words.

Thanks for making this.

Had a short story fail to get picked up by seven places in the last year.

Needless to say I needed this reminder that markets are fickle.
